Saw this on Rob’s blog: Irwin Half-Dozen bike race.

I’m skipping since I’ve got friends in from DC. Plus it’s my birthday on Thursday, so I might be hungover.

“irwin half-dozen” bike race march 1st
this race sounds pretty fun, i hope to enter on my MTB and “sit and spin” up a few hills. ;]

also: if anybody wants a ride to the race from the picksburgh area, let me know. i’ve got room for possibly 3 others if the logistics work out with getting 3 bikes on my rack and one in the trunk.

Hey all,
Spring is upon us. Time to grease the chains, tighten the bolts, and come out of hibernation. This is a little “race” to get everybody outside and riding again. Start to finish will be about 2 hours. After much debate about the day, we settled on March 1st(This saturday).

Destined to become a spring classic right up there with Paris-Roubaix and Liege-Bastogne-Liege, you’re invited to the inaugural Irwin Half Dozen. This will be a stage race from my house on 3/1/08 at 1:00. I couldn’t find a satisfying early spring race, so I created my own. Inspired by Pittsburgh Dirty Dozen, we will race 6 or so uphill stages (check out the attached map) on the rural roads by my house, and points will be awarded based on finish order. Most points at the end of the day wins. My latest idea is to add in a driveway derby right from the start. Nathan will enjoy watching from the deck. All details are subject to change at the discretion of race promoter, of course.

Road bikes and mountain bikes are welcome, anything goes, maybe we’ll have a champion of each class. I’m hoping for full Pgh Posse attendance, and a bonus appearance by Nate (aka, The Ringer) who will be in Latrobe that weekend. I don’t really expect any other out-of-towners, but you’re all welcome and we have guest beds.

Let’s do it, Boys. 2 weeks until the stage race of truth.
